Barhani (Devnagari: बढ़नी ) is a town and nagar panchayat in Siddharth Nagar District in Uttar Pradesh state, India. This town also has a railway station on the Gorakhpur-Gonda Loop line of Indian Railway. Nearby villages include Mujahna, Bagahi, Semrahwa, Basantpur, Dhanauri, Dhanaura, Dudhawania, Sewra, Dhebarua and Gharuar. It is adjacent to the Nepal border from Krishna Nagar. Nepalese and Indian nationals cross the border with no restrictions; however, there is a customs checkpoint for goods. Barhani is directly connected to Gorakhpur, Gonda, Lucknow, Kanpur, Kolkata and Mumbai by train.



History


The Terai areas of Gonda, Bahraich, Blarampur, Siddharth Nagar, Utraula beyond Ghaghara River were the last destination of revolutionaries after 1857 defeat the leaders gone to kathmandu Nepal for taking asyulum in Nepal while the armies / their follower's, independent fauji's, Razakar's, jageerdars, rajas and their families were settled in dense forests of Devi patan in bordering areas of Nepal up to deep in Nepal area. and in those days after defeat people were hiding their identities in fear with Britishers and some local land lord like Raja of balrampur, Bansi etc., as these rajas has taken part of Britisher's in mutiny war. while other rajas & land lords like Raja of Bundi, Raja of Gonda & Rani of Tulsi pur and land lords from different part of utraula e.g. Goma & jara (Fatima jot) has taken the side of Begum Hazrat Mahal & Raja Mehdi Hasan.



Demographics


As of the 2001 India census,[1] Barhani Bazar had a population of 11,824. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. . 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.
