Shohratgarh is a town, a Nagar Panchayat and sub division (tehsil) in Siddharth Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. It is close to international border with adjoining district Kapilvastu District of Nepal. Domariyagunj, Itwa and Bansi are the adjoining tehsils of Shohratgarh. Siddharthnagar district is famous for cultivation of Kalanamak rice, which is a short grain, scented variety of rice and its aroma is said to be a gift of Lord Buddha. This rice has also been given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Government of India in 2013 to define area of origin, also found in this sub division. The district headquarter is located in Naugarh, which is 22 km east from Shohratgarh.

Demographics
As of 2011[update], the India census, the population of Shohratgarh town is 9350 and total population of this sub division is 420,532[1], with the sex ratio of 970 female per 1000 male. Males constitute about 52 percent of the total population and females 48 percent. The literacy rate of Shohratgarh town is about 78.08 percent, higher than the state average of 68 percent. Male literacy is 79.98 percent, and the female is 68.04 percent approx. In Shohratgarh, 15 percent of the population is under six years of age.
Education
Various schools (private and public) and colleges (secondary and Higher education) are located in the Shohrathgarh sub division to provide educational opportunities to the town population and nearby villages. Shivpati degree (PG) college was established in 1964 and is affiliated to Siddhartha University[2] is located in this town close to railway station.
Transport
Shohratgarh railway station (station code–SOT) is located on the way to Gorakhpur from Gonda and well connected to Lucknow, Kanpur, Mumbai and New Delhi [3]. The state highways are connected to this town from Gorakhpur and Balrampur as the part of India-Japan Buddhist circuit project for the roadways facility of Uttar Pradesh[4]. Small vehicles are available to reach Khunuwa bazar located at Indo-Nepal border, which is 8 km north from Shohratgarh town.
